So when I first looked into SAP SteamWork I didn’t quite know what to think of it. There are plenty of collaboration tools out there!!
This was because I was thinking with my end user hat on and not my consultant, contractor or small business hat.
Here is a quick intro video on SAP StreamWorks:
Integration
So, If you can’t see any advantages in it by now …. SteamWork has native connectivity into the following:
…which means you can still use your fav web based tools and integrate them into StreamWork.
I know what you’re going to say …. “I can use google docs for that!!” , well you could if all you wanted to do was share docs. But this allows you to do a LOT more than just share docs.
Here is an example of how a small (distributed) business utilises StreamWork:
But anything SAP based costs a fortune and is geared towards large enterprise based companies
Generally I would agree with you, but this is where SAP seem to be changing their stripes a bit. They’ve designed SteamWork to cater for everyone from small businesses to large enterprises.
Cost:
So, at the end of the day, this is what it all boils down to… COST. This is what really surprised me, the basic service is FREE!!! That’s right, FREE and then it steps up to $19 (USD) per user per month. Here is a full breakdown of their pricing model.

So, I think you get the point that I like SteamWork and I hope you can see why.
It’s nice to see SAP stepping out of the corporate world and offer some it’s great services to the smaller people in this world…. everyone has to start somewhere!!

So, after playing with StreamWork a bit more… I REALLY want a project to work on it properly now!! The interface is awesome and very intuïtieve.
Time to get my next internal project and use StreamWork as it's source.
This is the kind of thing that Microsoft should have created within SharePoint!!
